i only wanted more than i knew
listening to your grandfather telling a story in person, that you've heard a thousand times, and its still your favorite. Thats what it was like watching Liz Phair perform her 15 year old album 'Exile in Guyville" at the TLA tonight. It was very satisfying to hear it like that, and to know what song comes next was an interesting way of seeing a live show. She wasn't very good, or on beat sometimes, but there was something disarming about that that allowed me to forgive that. So it wasn't really a rock show so much as it was more like an evening with an old friend. It was great
Oh and the first ever liz phair song i ever heard was the one in the video up there. I was living at arcosanti and sophie made me a mixtape for my 20th birthday called "welcome to your 20's baby". It was a great mix that i'm depressed i dont habe anymore. But i distinctly remember hearing this song and somehow getting my hands on the whole album...i've been listening to it ever since for the last 9 years...thanks sophie!
