My dearest Leana and I have had the same new years resolution for the last 3 years, it took us that long to get it right. That we were not going to do things we didn't want to. Not things like work or other obvious responsibilities. Just learning to say no thank you to invites to parties we feel unessearily obligated to go to, and not feeling guilty about it afterwords. Or saying no to going out with a girlfriend when we really want to stay home and watch tv. etc... it's harder than you think, you try and do it sometime, just you watch, it will take you three years to do it too!
So now that we've mastered that, this year we have a new one that Leana deemed official today:
New Years Resolution 2008:
Don't try to predict the future.
Don't try to predict the future for the following reasons:
1- you can't (thank you Chris Cummings for pointing out the bleeding obvious...men!)
2- predictions are mostly made up of assumptions, fears and wishes, not reality.
3- reacting in real time to future predictions causes one to avoid potentially awsome situations, or worse, allow us permission to behave badly based on a cynical outlook of said future.
example: He doesn't know what he wants to do with his life. This means he's not good relationship material, therefore if i get involved with him it will never work and it will end badly. So no, i won't even return his phone call.
See? that might have been my husband on the phone!
