WARNING: worst, video, ever. it's kind of a non-video even and thats not even Liz Phair. However the live versions of this song available on youtube didnt do it justice, so i guess, just close your eyes or look away cause its a great song without the video lameness.
In fact, the more videos i saw for songs from this album, Exile in Guyville, the more i realized that the songs need to just be on thier own. They are in perfect order on the album, and need nothing else to support them. This is actaully one of my 5 desert island discs...as in if i got stranded on a desert island could only have 5 albums with me, this would be one of them. I remember the first time i fell in love with this song. I was living at Arcosanti and i was in the woodshop where my friend Raymi and i each had studios. Sophie had sent me a mix tape for my 20th birthday called "welcome to you're 20's baby!". (that would make it 1999) It was a great mix, and this song was one of the songs on side A. (cassettes with sides, how retro of us!) It quickly became the rewind and listen to again song on the tape. That and the Lauryn Hill song i had previousely refused to even try out. Sophie was right, and I fell in love with Lauryn Hill form that mix tape too.
Requirements for Desert Island Discs:
1. Have to love every song on the album, not one song i would skip over.
2. Can be played any time, any day, ever, and it's appropriate and you're psyched to hear it.
Here's the list in no particular order:
Exile in Guyville : Liz Phair
Achtung Babyhttp://www.blogger.com/img/gl.link.gif : U2
Harvest : Neil Young
Fox Confessor Brings the Flood - Neko Case
Post - Bjork
I know it's shocking to have an album so realtively new as Fox Cofessor... it's bold, but its so right. That album resonates in my bones or something, if it were a food, i would eat it every day, i know pook understands my love for this album, it runs true and deep. However because of it's newness, i feel compelled to at least mention that Arcade Fire's Neon Bible is in real contention for a spot up there. But as that album only came out within the last 12 months, i feel it has not been around long enough for consideration on anyone's desert island disc list yet. Hasnt had the oppotunity to hold it's own and withstand the test of time yet.
